Homework.
What is homework?
Homework can be described as anything that children do outside the normal school day that contributes to their learning and helps them to progress. Homework includes a whole variety of activities which can be set by teachers and parents/guardians to support the children's learning.
Why do we have homework?
Homework is an important part of a child's education, and can add much to a child's development in addition to their school work. Homework plays a positive role in raising a child's level of attainment and the rate at which they make progress. We see homework as an important example of co-operation between teachers and parents/guardians.
One of the aims of our teaching is for children to develop as independent learners and we believe that doing homework is one of the main ways in which children can acquire the skill of independent learning. However, we also acknowledge the important role of play and free time in a child's growth and development outside of the school day, so this policy aims to outline realistic homework expectations that compliment your child’s whole development.
