Family Support & Our Family Mentor
My name is Gill Baker and I am extremely proud and honoured to be the Family Mentor at Christ Church. My key role is to champion the needs of children who may be facing barriers to effective learning both inside and outside of school. I work with pupils and their families as well as teachers and outside agencies to construct flexible and responsive support networks.
Support for Children
At Christ Church, we work across the whole school to support children’s social, emotional and mental health development. When a need has been identified by a parent/carer, teacher or the child themselves, as much information as possible is gathered to plan the most suitable intervention e.g. 1:1 sessions, group sessions or support during break and lunch times.
Support may take the form of:
* helping to raise a child’s confidence and self-esteem
* increasing motivation
* developing emotional literacy
* developing coping strategies to regulate emotions e.g. anxiety and anger
* building resilience
* developing social skills and helping to manage friendship issues
* dealing with bereavement
* attendance support
Support for Parents/Carers and Families
To help ensure children achieve their full potential, positive home-school relationships are encouraged by supporting parents/carers during times of need, however big or small.
Support may take the form of:
* offering advice on how to manage challenging behaviour at home
* signposting for support with financial worries, housing issues or debt problems
* signposting for support for parents who wish to return to work or education
* signposting for support with relationship problems, illness or bereavement and mental health issues
* attendance support
